The reaction to Venerable Ming Yi’s 10 criminal charges were mixed and he still has many supporters… as reported in Sunday Times 20 Jul 08.
We got to know Venerable Ming Yi through the Ren Ci’s fund raising charity show where he abseiled 45 storeys live from Suntec City in 2003. We were again moved to tears from his stunt in 2004 when he immersed himself in a tank of ice for about 23 minutes. Other stunts over the years includes balancing on top of a five-storey structure for 2 hours, walking across parallel beams 66 storeys high and pulling himself up 23 storeys using rope and pulley.
After watching his death defying stunts year after year which he was doing to raise funds for charity, we were convinced he has done it for the good of the unfortunate under his charge. We have since been generous donors to Ren Ci Charity Shows.
Horrors of horrors when he was complicated last November when Ren Ci Hospital and Medicare Centre for “possible irregularities” in accounts. When Ming Yi was faced with 10 charges last week, we were totally shattered. Though some people are sticking by him as they say “Innocent until proven guilty” but to us, that’s not the case. We have completely lost faith in local charities (NKF saga etc) and are holding our wallets till we are convinced charities are truly “Charities” or he is proven innocent.
